Creating a pattern is like a jigsaw puzzle - you have to find the perfect spot for each piece in order for it to fit in properly!

My design process starts with a pencil and sketchbook. Once I have a variety of motifs sketched, I come up with a pattern and color concept. At this stage, my pattern is not seamless, but rather in an “implied” repeat format.  I create the concept by hand (meaning that I draw or paint each element) or I create digitally using my iPad. Once I am happy with the concept, I then proceed to create a seamless pattern using Photoshop.
