Product Retirement Announcement: Marbled Ring Bowls
Share
Do you know how these handmade ring bowls became one of my best selling items? Let me share a little history with you…
In December 2015, I participated in my first holiday market, with the New York Handmade Collective at Chelsea Market in New York City. Back then, my primary product line was hand dyed kitchen and table linens. I only had a limited batch of inventory and I was looking for ways to fill up empty space on my table.
Earlier in 2015, I taught a series of craft workshops that involved using polymer clay. I had plenty of clay left over and wondered what I could make with it. I cut, sliced and twisted the clay to create a marbled pattern, and shaped it into small bowls. I embellished them with glaze and gold rims.
I had my first batch of marbled ring bowls ready to fill the empty space on my table at the market!
Much to my surprise, every customer that came to my table was immediately drawn to these bowls and asked me “how much?” Since they were just supposed to be a filler item, I did not really think about pricing, so I just came up with a price on the spot.
These bowls sold out and I knew I had a best seller!
In January 2016, after the holiday rush slowed down, I made new bowls, in distinct color themes, found better packaging, created several product listings on my Etsy shop (at that time I did not have divineny.com), and even created a listing for bulk orders.
Since then, these marbled ring bowl sets have been one of my best sellers especially during Mother’s Day and holiday season.
But now the time has come to retire these products.
Though I do love making them, they no longer make sense for my business model and the new direction I am going in.
What does this mean?
These bowls are now available only as sets of four and in limited quantities, exclusively in my Etsy shop. Once the remaining sets sell out, they will not be restocked. If you’re looking for a unique, handcrafted gift, now is the time while they’re still available.
