How It All Started
“Necessity Breeds Innovation”
Rekha’s original collection of Tees (launched under the name Divine dZigns), came to life after trying to find a cool t-shirt to wear that had an interesting print but with charm and elegance. Taking matters into her own hands, in the summer of 2007, with her markers and sketch pad, she gave life to her design concept and ideas. She was inspired by the intricacies of Indian henna artistry and poured over countless henna design books to hand-sketch her own designs. It all started to come together – the colors, the designs and the inspiration. In early 2008 the original collection of Divine dZigns Tees was born! Much labor and love went into this manually intensive process. As time went on, she learned about the industry, improved her processes and expanded he design business.
“Innovation Sparks New Ideas”
Inspired by the success of her original t-shirt collection, Rekha’s desire to add color to people’s inner and outer world took hold.
After moving into her new condo and once again unable to find what she wanted (in this case, the perfect throw pillows for her new sofa), she ventured into the fabric stores in NYC’s fashion district and fell in love with the colors, fabrics and prints that she saw. The ideas began to flow and she discovered a new passion for home décor and ways to make spaces come to life. The Divine NY & Co. home line was born!
“Always Re-Invent Yourself”
Creating her home line made her realize how much she loved crafting color palettes and coordinating home accessories. Her true passion is creating color schemes, researching fabrics, picking the perfect home/office accessories, and putting it all together to create a cozy and comfortable haven. She knew she could help people color both their inner and outer worlds and so she launched her design services offerings.
Rekha has also launched an E-zine where she offers creative design ideas for home and fashion and Divine TV, a video series of decorating tips and home improvement ideas, is in the works.
Her ideas have changed over the years, but the inspiration never stops!
