Mediterranean Style!

by Rekha on May 30, 2011

I just returned from vacationing in Italy.  I was in Northern Italy in a region called Cinque Terre which means ‘the five lands’.  Cinque Terre is a rugged portion of coast in the Italian Riviera.  Cinque Terre consists of these 5 towns:  Moneterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore.  I also took a ferry ride to visit the nearby Porto Venere, a charming village just south of  Cinque Terre and Genova.  Cinque Terre is known for its natural beauty and lack of ‘visible’ modern development.  Foot paths, trains and boats connect the villages but cars cannot reach them from the outside.

Besides the breath-taking scenery, natural beauty, lush greenery and clear blue waters, I was very drawn to the vibrant colors of the buildings, rooftops and doorways.  The colors of this region such as terra cotta, burnt sienna, yellow ochre, hunter green, cool blue, blush pink, brick red create a very charming, peaceful and quaint atmosphere.

I was camera happy in Cinque Terre, always clicking away taking photos of the incredible scenery.  The blue waters, the lush greenery of the mountain tops and cliff sides, the pink & yellow toned buildings with interesting colorful doorways inspired me to create this color palette, which I feel is a reflection of the colors of Cinque Terre.
