Print designer and creator Rekha Krishnamurthi specializes in hand dyeing, marbling, block printing, hand painting and digitally rendered designs. Her designs feature a mixture of bold color and abstract prints, blending different genres, eras and techniques. Her aesthetic combines rustic elements with modern design, further enhanced by East-meets-West inspired prints.

Her design process starts with a sketchpad, pencils and markers, where she creates her inspiration and color palette. She then experiments transferring her design ideas onto fabric by silk painting, hand dyeing, block printing or hand painting with textile paints, dyes and fabric markers. She also creates original prints on paper with watercolor, gouache and markers. Once a fabric print or paper print is complete, it is scanned and digitally enhanced in Photoshop or Illustrator, where she converts the design to repeat patterns, new color ways and creates a digital file.

In addition to her passion for design, she has enjoyed a diverse career path. After earning business degrees, she worked in both finance and consulting while taking classes at New York’s Parsons, the New School of Design and Fashion Institute of Technology. When not working in her studio, she teaches business skills in project management, digital marketing and customer service to young urban adults through instructor-led classes and online learning for a workforce development program.

Rekha is available for independent work and collaborations for all types of creative projects. For details, please email: info@divineny.com.
